I was in the midst of my Tuesday morning self-care routine and inspiration struck. So, here we are. We are all familiar with what self care is; however, it looks different for everyone. We all recharge in different ways, but I have recently been learning the difference between self care and intentional self care.
I am going to walk you through what my self care routine looks like:
I have Tuesday morning’s off, so that is when my routine will take place.
First, I cleaned my apartment the night before. I love waking up to a clean space because, clear space = clear mind. Second, I let myself sleep in! I wake up around 7a to 7:30a naturally. I think years of working ESP and waking up early for my job at ILC has really changed my sleep routine.
Next, I go to my kitchen and make an iced latte. I got a Nespresso for Christmas and it makes me extremely happy. Right now, I love doing a double shot of espresso and milk with cinnamon (frothed).
I get back in bed and light a candle (or two.) I just got this room spray from Target and it smells HEAVENLY. (brand: hearth & hand by magnolia. Scent: Salt). Next, I will either journal or read.
The most important aspect is that I remain present. I am very Type-A, so I tend to plan out every aspect of my life. So, I really have to be intentional about being in the moment. I don’t use this time to journal heaving therapy topics. Instead, I will make a gratitude list or write where I am at in life and how I can bring my peace to it. It is really like a little self check in.
This is the point that I will switch over into doing skincare. I LOVE skincare and it is truly one of my biggest acts of self care.
Currently using:
- Youth to the People Superfood Cleanser: this is my holy grail cleanser. It cleanses my skin without drying it out.
- I am trying the Summer Friday’s Jet Lag Mask. So far, I love the consistency and how hydrating it is.
- Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask! I think I have gone through four or five containers. I am obsessed with it! It’s my favorite lip mask. I have it on me at all times.
- OSEA Undaria Algae Body OIl mixed with the Necessaire Hyaluronic Body Serum all over. These products make me feel luxurious and my skin loves it.
I don’t want to push the idea of materialism. Skincare has always been an area that I see as an investment into myself. The act of working hard and saving money to buy nice products screams self love to me! However, any lotion, cleanser etc. will be perfect. A skincare routine is really just a time to be present and connected with your body.
Next, I will take time to read! I am reading Acts of Service by Lillian Fishman. I am half way through it! A goal of mine this year was to read books outside of my normal fiction/romance genre. I wanted to expand my vocabulary and read books that would really make me reflect on my life. Acts of Service is making me contemplate female sexuality and the societal pressure to continuously crave male validation. 10/10 so far.
Lastly, I will make breakfast and play an Eva Meloche Youtube video. I am so obsessed with her right now.
Like I said, self care will look different for everyone. Other ways that I practice self care is going on walks or making dinner with friends.
Working at a treatment center has really forced me to be more intentional with my self care time. I can’t show up to work and be fully present for the clients if I haven’t taken care of myself. Thank you for reading! I hope this post makes you reflect and potentially create a self care ritual.
Love,
Sara Posey
